Putting in food plots for wildlife is not difficult. A good wildlife food plot
can be done with a small investment of both time and money.

STEPS TO KEEP IN MIND FOR FOOD PLOT PREPARATION:
ALL the trouble and preparation you go through is “not just” the
time spent actually “plowing only”. The list goes something
like this if I have a large pull behind type plow or a tractor. I have
to call a friend to set up a time/date when he can go with me in most cases because
this is normally a 2-man job. I have to make sure I have the proper size
trailer and the tires are pumped up and the lights are working. I have
to have the big straps or chains with a turnbuckle. I have to make sure
my truck is designed to pull this heavy load and that I go ahead and gas up my
truck because getting in and out of a station with this trailer attached can
be hairy in some places. Even though you are not supposed to “top
it off” I better do so anyway because I will require way more gas to pull
my heavy rig.
AGGRAVATION
In many cases hunters do not think it is worth the trouble
but those of us that do put in food plots know that we get
a lot of satisfaction out of upgrading our property. We
are helping the herd if we plant the proper seeds… mixing
in annuals and perennials that will feed WILDIFE through
out the season. If you plan it properly you can feed
your deer and turkey year round. There is a lot of satisfaction
involved in making you property have more potential for bigger
and better animals. Your hunts will done with more
expectation and your kids and grandkids will see more wildlife
keeping them with you, more interested, and hopefully out
of trouble. There is some aggravation from time to
time but well worth it. It is part of the overall hunting
experience.
A BIG note here on Aggravation factor (like
you don’t know this one):
Any problems are magnified 100 fold when you are in the deer
woods trying to get setup for deer season and you have an ATV/tractor
plow breakdown of some sort. If something goes bad at
work its no big deal you have plenty of time, but you are on
your OFF time. Let’s put it another way…if
your well laid…by–the-number…17 step plan
of juggling dates and work, kitchen passes from MAMA, buddies
to help, weather conditions, borrowing whatever, gas-diesel,
seeds-fertilizer…if it goes into the ditch in the deer
woods…after ALL this planning, lost of time, heavy cost,
and you best effort: Mercy…we have stress and sometimes
salty language.
